Nitchen improves the lives of New York City Native children and youth by enabling them to grow into healthy and well adjusted students, family and community members; instilling pride in being American Indian; and fostering intercultural understanding between American Indians and non-native Americans.

Serving parents, particularly single mothers, who need support and validation to become better parents is one way we ensure that our commitment to youth is met. We help American Indian mothers gain the skills they need to raise their families in an urban setting.

Many of our mothers are gifted artists or keepers of knowledge about American Indian cultures. They learn to be presenters and workshop facilitators training corporations, schools, museums and other institutions about Native American peoples. Not only do the women develop confidence, but they help make the world a better place for all children by addressing stereotypes and inaccuracies about Native Americans.
